5-5-5-5 cut
Raimund Kummer / Daniel Ott
5 rooms, 5 sculptures, 5 instrumentalists, 5 hours a day over five weeks: Sculptor Raimund Kummer and composer Daniel Ott have co-created a programmatically open work of art in Pariser Platz’s historical exhibition halls. Kummer’s sculptural fragments and video works intersect the central axis in the space; Ott’s instrumental music provides the cuts: 5-5-5-5 cut.
In their collaboration, the two Akademie der Künste, Berlin members interact with a track they jointly produced. It uses 16 loudspeakers to introduce a recurring element ‒ the sounds of walking made audible as footsteps. Interruptions in the action, time and sound, montage and intermediality reflect the cuts. Daniel Ott’s composed instrumental passages for clarinet, saxophone, trumpet, viola, double bass and percussion enter into dialogue with Raimund Kummer’s five sculpture fragments and three video projections, which are axially positioned throughout the galleries. The compositions are performed live daily by at least two musicians who continually move through the exhibition space.
This SpaceSoundIntervention is a musically choreographed, visual and sculptural interplay. It invites visitors to make spatial and aural discoveries during live encounters with musicians, sculpture fragments and video projections.
With the musicians:
Jone Bolibar Núñez (Bass clarinet)
Jana De Troyer und Ruth Velten (Baritone saxophone)
Rike Huy and Paul Hübner (Trumpet)
