The Archives receives requests for loans from around the world. Documents, books, works of art and museal objects from the Art Collection enrich numerous national and international exhibitions. The Akademie der Künste's exhibition spaces at the Hanseatenweg and Pariser Platz venues also present several exhibitions a year – showing both exhibits from the Akademie as well as external loans.

The Registrars of the Academy of Arts are responsible for organising loans for and from other institutions. They are also responsible for drawing up and checking loan contracts, taking out insurance, commissioning and synchronising transport, coordinating and supervising the installation and dismantling of exhibitions and monitoring the logging of exhibits.

The tasks require close co-operation with various departments within and outside the Academy (conservation, transport companies, lending institutions and curatorial and installation teams). Another important task is planning and realisation of Archive transfers.
