KUNSTWELTEN in the district of Vorpommern-Greifswald Homeland. Fear. How to carry on living?

Workshop

At the beginning of May 1945, when the Red Army occupied the small town of Demmin in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, the largest mass suicide in German history took place there. This traumatic experience, which the great-grandparents of today’s secondary school pupils can still tell us about, provides an occasion – in times of a resurgence of nationalist and fascist tendencies – to examine the themes of homeland, fear, resistance and hope.

In this art project with Kerstin Hensel and Mark Lammert, the pupils write literary miniatures and create large-format pictures, which they present at school and in town.
