The election and poll results of the AfD are frightening. This success cannot be explained solely as protesting against the policies of the present government. For years, the number of right-wing attacks and acts of violence in Germany has been on the rise. Right-wing populism is growing. The central question is: How can we make our democracy more defensible and protect our open society?
