Reconstruction Garrison Church Potsdam: Place of Learning or Place of Identification?
Since 2017 the tower of the Garrison Church in Potsdam has been rebuilt under the patronage of the Federal President. In an open letter in August 2019, artists and scientists called for fundamental changes to the project. They criticized the lack of distance to the right-wing and militaristic traditions of the place. As a result of the letter, the reproduction of the carillon was switched off because of its right-wing dedications, but the questions about the architectural appearance and the institutional setting of the project remain.
Panel discussion with Thomas Albrecht, Berlin, architect of the Garrison Church Potsdam; Wolfgang Huber, former bishop Berlin-Brandenburg; Saskia Hüneke, art historian; Detlef Karg, former state conservator Brandenburg; Philipp Oswalt, Kassel, co-initiator of the petition and Hildegard Rugenstein, pastor, Potsdam.
