Moving Sand / Topos
An audiovisual essay of film, music, dance and text
Performance on Saturday, 09 November, at 7 pm
Akademie der Künste, Hanseatenweg 10, 10557 Berlin, Germany
Artificial intelligence has a radical effect on nearly all areas of human life. The audiovisual essay Moving Sand / Topos ‒ by composer and musician Floros Floridis and filmmaker and Akademie President Jeanine Meerapfel ‒ is inspired by these changes that affect our perception of “topos” in its various levels of meaning. Through the combination of film with live, improvised music, dance and text, the essay associatively points out how digital mania and technology are increasingly colonising our daily lives.
The concept of Moving Sand / Topos originates from Floros Floridis and is the continuation of an experimental format the two artists previously implemented in the Akademie production Confusion / Diffusion in 2015.
In Moving Sand / Topos, Tanzcompagnie Rubato (Dieter Baumann and Jutta Hell) are also participating for the first time. Also on stage: live improvised music by Floros Floridis and hornist Elena Kakaliagou.
Moving Sand / Topos was created as part of the Akademie event “Wo kommen wir hin”. It will be performed on Saturday, 9 November, during the Akademie der Künste's Fall General Assembly, which is scheduled to take place on 8/9 November 2019.
This date, 9 November, has witnessed several consequential events in German history. Last year, the Akademie der Künste remembered the 80th anniversary of the November pogroms on 9 November 1938. This year, the 30th anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall will be the focus of public interest. We are looking back with a retrospective of photography by Helga Paris at our venue at Pariser Platz, and with the performance of Moving Sand / Topos at Hanseatenweg we are looking forward to changes, opportunities and dangers of artificial intelligence.
