The Junge Akademie invites the public to AGORA ARTES, the final presentations of its 2018 fellows. Featuring 15 international artists representing all six sections of the Akademie der Künste, this exhibition includes interactive installations, performances, videos, literature, and music compositions. The works deal with themes such as homeland and identity, deep fakes and truth regimes, what it means to be a historical witness, as well as experiences of war and exile. The exhibition opens on Saturday, 4 May at 6:30 pm, with performances and concerts throughout the evening. AGORA ARTES is on view in the Akademie building on Hanseatenweg until 11 May.
The 2018 Fellows:
Ramy Al-Asheq (Literature), Adisa Bašić (Literature), cylixe (Visual Arts), Mirkan Deniz (Visual Arts), Stefanie Heim (Film and Media Arts), Susann Maria Hempel (Film and Media Arts), Alicia Hernanz (Architecture), Alexander Khubeev (Music), Yorgos Loizos (Architecture), Kleopatra Markou (Performing Arts), Lynn Takeo Musiol (Performing Arts), Mithatcan Öcal (Music), Marina Poleukhina (Werner Düttmann Fellowship), Ambra Viviani (Basel-Berlin- Fellowship), Martina Wegener (Saarland Fellowship).
On Saturday, 11 May and Sunday, 12 May 2019, at 7 pm, viewers can take part in S.C.H.U.U.L.E., Susann Maria Hempel (Junge Akademie fellow) and Cássio Diniz Santiago's performance in the Blackbox on Pariser Platz. Set in a classroom, twelve teachers impart unconventional knowledge, sharing experiences they have gained from living with a “disability”. The audience is invited to take the seats of the students and to participate in a performative lesson that seeks to “give us back an image of ourselves that we do not recognise.” (Maniglier, 2005)
A fundamental role of the Akademie der Künste is to promote the work of young, international artists from all disciplines. The Akademie actively pursues this objective by awarding prizes and fellowships, administered and guided by the Junge Akademie, a department set up specifically for this purpose. An advisory board made up of members from all arts sections accompanies the work and projects of this advancement programme. Five different fellowships are now overseen by the Junge Akademie.
