Vita
Laura Laabs is an author and film director. She studied politics and then directing at the Film University Konrad Wolf. She has directed films and radio plays and is co-founder of the feminist collective r.O.k.S. Her feature film Red Stars Upon the Field (Rote Sterne überm Feld) received the Max Ophüls Preis der Filmkritik and the Achtung Berlin Preis for best screenplay, among other awards. Her novel, adlergestell, will be published in fall 2025.
Residency
Laabs deals with the traces of the past in the present. During her residency, she would like to explore the question of how the past can be made visible and tangible using (simple) aesthetic means. A collage of written and visual notes will be used to create an essay film, with Villa Serpentara serving as the starting point for a journey through time.
