Joëlle Léandre
Joëlle Léandre (*1951 in Aix-en-Provence, France) is a double bassist and is involved in both New Music and improv. With her work as a composer and musician, she performs on prestigious stages worldwide, either as a soloist or in ensembles. Léandre is part of the Les Diaboliques trio together with Irène Schweitzer and singer Maggie Nicols. In December 2017, Joëlle Léandre wrote an open letter that gained international attention to the organisers of the annual Les Victoires du Jazz music awards, in which she expressed her bewilderment and anger at the selection of only male winners.
